Summary

The Health and Safety Co-Ordinator shall be responsible to assist with the maintenance, reporting and training/orientation of the health and safety programs. This position will work closely with all employees to ensure safe work practices, policies, quality standards and procedures are consistent and being followed. This position is responsible to track and monitor KPIs and trends relevant to continuous improvement of processes.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the promotion of a positive Health and Safety awareness culture
  • Create and deliver Health and Safety training materials in support of new processes and procedures
  • Works with key stakeholders to develop a technical training curriculum
  • Leads subject matter experts through the development and delivery of technical theory and practical training programs
  • Monitors apprentices to ensue internal training augments trade school curriculum for maximum exposure
  • Monitor training matrix and schedule all required new and refresher training to employees
  • Provide comprehensive new hire orientation and training
  • Support and assist HR in maintaining all records associated to all training
  • Assist in the improvement of management system procedures and forms, in line with applicable standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
  • Recommend when new or revised processes and documentation is required
  • Assist HSQ&E Manager with data analysis, evaluation of trends and generation of reports
  • Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Maintain records and filing systems
  • Co-ordinate meetings, prepare agendas, training events, take minutes, records and tracks actions
  • Travel to sites to perform observations and audits
  • Build strong relationships with client representatives to ensure application of policy and procedures are consistent. Seek regular feedback from client

General Requirements

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of provincial occupational health and safety, Worker’s Compensation and applicable environmental legislation
  • A working knowledge and hands on experience with ISO standards (9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent is preferred
  • An aptitude for problem solving; strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and other software solutions
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with all employees
  • Strong ability to lead, motivate, engage and influence others
  • A willingness to take initiative to understand changing regulations and business requirements
  • A strong record of team leadership
  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel to job sites, and offices
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills

  • The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain confidences and ensure confidentiality of information and records
  • Ability to acquire security clearance
  • Complete proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, QMS and other common applications
  • Valid G driver’s license

Work Conditions

  • Travel will be required between Smiths Falls and Trenton as well as various construction and manufacturing sites in Ontario
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required
