The Senior Civil Engineer Summary

The Senior Civil Engineer works under the direction of the Senior Engineering Manager. This person is primarily responsible for planning and executing structural & civil design projects from beginning to total completion. This person will also provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team members through their expertise.

Kilmarnock’s typical structural & civil projects are smaller scale systems which support the activities of manufacturing facilities. Examples may include:

  • Existing building modification (column relocation, wind bracing…)
  • Addition of Custom Mezzanines
  • Joist Reinforcements
  • Pipe & Equipment Hangers
  • Roof or Wall penetrations
  • Concrete Equipment Pads

The Senior Civil Engineer Job Duties

  • Coordinate, support, and supervise the work of the engineering team who prepare drawings and specifications for client projects & requirements
  • Responsible for communicating project status, concerns, and project solutions with management, fellow staff; including the presentation of project to internal and external stakeholders and acquiring approval to proceed prior to manufacturing.
  • Prepare project plans and ensure the projects are completed accurately and within the budget
  • Perform site visits to gather the required information for quoting, or execution of a project.
  • Inspecting completed projects to ensure they are compliant with safety standards and codes. This includes professional development to stay up to date with current codes.
  • Participate in the development of systems related to documentation, controls, and
  • Participate in business development related to your area of responsibility / clients.
  • Research and recommend ongoing design-based improvements to the company
  • Build on and broaden departmental skills and offerings to clients
  • Mentor team development, growth, and succession planning

 

The Senior Civil Engineer Requirements

  • Civil Engineering degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience with industrial design, regulations, guidelines, and associated standards
  • P. Eng Ontario designation preferred; eligibility is also acceptable.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Solidworks, MS Office, and other 3D imaging software
  • In-depth knowledge of civil engineering and structural specifications, standards, and codes
  • Ability to quote engineering requirements
  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals
  • Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment
  • Professional and effective communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

 

The Senior Civil Engineer Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ABB and/or Fanuc robots
  • Experience with robot programming and simulation software (Robot Studio, Robo guide)
  • Applied knowledge of Automation and Controls, preferably with Allen Bradley, Schneider, and Siemens software
  • Experience with vision system (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of Electrical Drawing Software (Eplan, See Electrical, Electra)
  • Experience in the design and programing of custom automated equipment

 

The Senior Civil Engineer Work Conditions

  • Ability to balance multiple projects with proven track record
  • Hybrid workplace office environment.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Travel to client location, construction sites and other off-site locations may be required.
  • Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Working both indoors and outdoors required
  • Will be exposed to construction sites.
  • Hazards associated with the trade
  • Require the use of personal protective equipment.
